The easiest and most available way to satisfy your sweet tooth is when you reach your hand in the bag and take away a small candy, as there is a big chance that precisely that candy is in your bag.
Just the sound of a rustlingly nice paper and hard candy inside that you know will instantly make you feel great, as it will spike your sugar, make you feel better in an instant, and maybe improve your day.
Giving candy to a child and seeing their smile is the best thing ever.
And yes we know that they are not the healthiest choice we can take, but here also it is important to be as moderate as you can.
And all of us have taken them, at least when we were younger.
There is virtually no one who does not like their taste – from different fruits to some exotic flavors.
One of the favorite kinds out there is Jolly Ranchers, one of the most famous labels of candy out there.
The company makes them since 1949, and you could see that they have a long history among people.
Jolly Ranchers are a famous delicacy appreciated by many, for as you can see so many years, but the query regardless of their Halal or Haram stays, as there are a lot of contradictions here, as lots of ingredients tell one thing but there is no confirmation that they are halal.
Here, we’re going to discuss the Jolly Ranchers’ elements and process of manufacture to decide if they are halal or not, based on the Islamic regulations regarding food.
When we simply look at the list of ingredients we will not find anything alarming – mostly we can find sugar (a lot of it, and also many artificial colors).
But all of this may be the problem.
There is no confirmation from the company, and the way of candies are manufactured may be a problem.
Are Jolly Ranchers Halal or Haram?
So, let us start from the list of ingredients: we can see a lot of sugar, corn syrup, artificial color, malic acid, and soy lecithin.
Nothing seems to be alarming here, right?
There is a lot of sugar and fruity flavor, nothing that we can say is haram.
But do not be surprised if we tell you that these candies are not halal at all, and not just based on the fact that they do not have any halal certificate.
The firm that makes them, Hershey has noted that they are not Halal approved.
Further, Hershey’s company products like chocolates which is their favorite product also can include elements that are haram, as it is clear that this company does not make halal products.
There is no certain way to find out how these candies were made and if the entire process of production is according to Islamic regulations, maybe just in the sense that halal ingredients were mixed with haram as this candy is made in the same factory.
Now, the issue of sugar, that is the central issue here.
Sugar, which is the main ingredient here is usually seen as halal, it does not have to be the case, as at times an animal bone is used in the process of whitening the sugar.
So, the raw kind would be seen as halal, but this is not confirmed by the company and is in the process of production.
Here, we suggest the easiest way to look is the product halal:
To examine the list of ingredients, look for those that are seen as forbidden in Islamic rule. Also, look for the Halal certificate.
It should be written on the packaging.
If you are in a position to look for the process of manufacture of a certain product, was it done by the Islamic regulations?
So the real truth is somewhere in between, as original Jolly Ranchers are Halal if we focus on the ingredients, but the company that makes them, Hershey has noted that they do not have the Halal certification.
Also, numerous of their other items are not Halal even glancing at their list of ingredients.
Ingredients
These candies are made out of a lot of sugar – there is a blend of sucrose, fructose, glucose, and corn syrup.
So, here you can find a lot of sugar and artificial flavors.
Jolly Rancher candies are therefore if we look at the sugar only, Halal, if we are talking about the regular sugar that has not gone through
the process of whitening; this is a so-called raw sugar and it is very likely Halal.
But this is not the rule, as there are types of sugar that are Haram because of the way how they have been produced.
To illustrate this we can say that for the production of sugar, an animal bone is used, adn it does not have to be killed based on the Halal rules this is what would make that sugar be haram, and the candy that is made out of it.
This is also one of the reasons why Jolly Ranchers do not have a halal certificate, as there is no certain way to determine what kind of sugar was used here.
We have to add that besides sugar, the major problem in the candy industry, regarding the halal or haram situation, represents gelatin.
It is often found in numerous candies, and the problem arises when it is made out of pork, as it is usually.
But, reporting gelatin or its origin is not mandatory according to legal regulations, so companies often decide to declare gelatin only as “gelatin” as it belongs to additives.
However, some producers declare it as “beef gelatin” for the reason that Jews and Muslims are forbidden to eat pork and pork products, so their market is larger.
If you look for Halal certification on the packaging, and it is there, there is no other need to state that the sugar is halla or that gelatin is beef and pork.
More about Jolly Ranchers
This is one of the most famous brands of candy – you can find them in various flavors, just like: watermelon, and apple.
Also one of my favorites is Fire Stix.
Many people love lemon flavor, grape, peach, sour apple, blue raspberry, cherry, orange tangerine, and black licorice.
During years, and it has been many years since this wonderful candy was primarily made, numerous different flavors were introduced to the world.
The company owners were from Colorado, Goleden, and wanted that kind of name for their candy, to be friendly and to sound western.
This candy is hard, and it is not recommended to chew a big piece of them.
The price for just one Jolly Rancher is about 0,11 dollars.
Expensive and very sugary.
For many, this is our favorite candy since our childhood, and what is interesting is that this candy has a distinctive fruity flavor and a long-lasting taste and smell.
Having said all of this, just like in the case of any other candy this one is not good for you, in terms of sugar, as it has too much of it, and it can harm your weight and teeth also, but it has no nutritional value what so ever.
So be careful how much you eat or give your kids to eat, as it can be very addictive, as we have said.
(Excessive) use of sugar is as harmful to the human body as cigarettes and alcohol, scientists say, and warn that sugary foods and drinks are responsible for a whole range of diseases, including obesity, heart disease, cancer, and liver problems.
They also claim that sugar (i.e. extreme use of sugar) worldwide, directly or indirectly, causes 35 million deaths per year.
Of course, this is just one research, and do not think that you only if you eat sugar, but if you eat and you have some other health challenges, this may cause additional problems.
And, we have to add, that based on the Islamic religion, anything that is addictive, that is unhealthy is not aligned with their rulings, as the main idea is to eat clean and to be healthy.
A body must follow this clear mind to serve Allah, as it is said in Quran.
Following these rules, even if it is not easy at all moment, especially in modern times, but it has a deeper meaning to it, for sure.
Conclusion
Additionally, this candy cannot be counted into the group of candy that is vegan, as they are not confirmed to be vegan and are not 100 percent gluten-free.
The company has said that ot does not use any gluten elements.
While the components in Jolly Ranchers may seem to be Halal, the absence of a Halal certificate, indefinite production processes, and possible usage of sugar that is not Halal use are elements to think about.
Jolly Ranchers are made out of a lot of sugar – there is a combination of sucrose, fructose, glucose, and corn syrup.
So, here you can find a lot of sugar and artificial flavors.

Also, look for the Halal certificate. It should be written on the packaging. If you are in a position to look for the process of manufacture of a certain product, was it done by the Islamic regulations?
In the Islamic religion, based on the rules, there is clear guidance – it is trusted in Allah, but all have to prove it.
This is standardization and products that have a Halal certification suggest that that product is made from start to end based on the Islamic regulations, and this is also a trademark for halal quality.
Each certification body has its character for halal products, and it may vary in different countries around the globe.
The trademark for halal quality used by companies certified by local Agencies is documented and protected at the global level.
If there is no certification, and the company has not declared its products as halal; then we suggest the easiest way to look is the product halal:
To look for the ingredients list, to look for those that are seen as forbidden in the Islamic rule, and we know that the problem here in this specific case is the sugar.
Raw sugar is by rule halal, but in numerous candies, and this also includes Jolly Ranchers, raw sugar is not used.
